Joseph's key research interests are inclusion, special educational needs, teacher education for inclusion, educational technology and AI in the classroom, and the relationship between the family, the state and schooling.

He has led numerous research and evaluation projects funded by government and national agencies. He also writes in different fora about inclusion, antisemitism and Jewish experience in higher education and schools. He regularly presents on issues of inclusion in a range of national and international forums.
