Professor David Latchman
Professor David Latchman CBE is a British academic, philanthropist, and avid collector of Anglo-Judaica artefacts. He serves as Vice-Chancellor of Birkbeck University of London, where he has been the driving force behind several improvements, including three-year evening undergraduate degrees. Latchman has a First-Class Honours BA degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, where he also achieved a PhD. He a three-year fellowship at Imperial College London and a DSc from the University of London.

Career

Professor Latchman has lectured and researched on molecular genetics for over three decades. He was the Head of the Department of Molecular Pathology, Director of the Windeyer Institute of Medical Sciences at the University College London, and Dean of the Institute of Child Health at University College London and Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital.

Philanthropy

Professor Latchman is Chairman of the trustees of The Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation and is a trustee of the Maurice and Vivienne Philanthropic Foundation. These organisations empower Jewish communities across the UK and Israel.Some of their most notable work includes funding the Wohl Campus for Jewish Education at the London School of Jewish Studies.

Literary Works

Professor Latchman has published several academic books and papers over the years. 

He has an extensive Anglo Judaica collection of books, manuscripts, and other objects which he used the collection to produce the book The United Synagogue: 150 Years of Service.

Professor Latchman writes regular blogs for the Times of Israel on items within his unique collection.
