Modesty For Heaven's Sake: Authority and religious creativity among Charedi teenagers - Lea Taragin-Zeller

Contemporary modesty is a creative sphere informed by two trends: the adoption of modern patterns and religious innovation. Based on ethnographic research conducted at a Bais Yaakov seminary in Jerusalem, we will discuss how Haredi female teachers and their teenage pupils are structuring an ideology of modesty through the reinterpretation of canonical texts on modesty fused with current ideals of feminism, beauty and fashion.
