LSJS is delighted that Questioning Belief: Torah and Tradition in an Age of Doubt (Koren, 2023) by Rabbi Dr Raphael Zarum, Dean of LSJS and the Rabbi Sacks Chair of Modern Jewish Thought, has been awarded a finalist for the Rabbi Sacks Book Prize 2023. The Prize, organised by Yeshiva University in New York, selects a winner and two finalists whose books are deeply sourced in Jewish texts and reflect Rabbi Sacks’s broad appeal.
In Questioning Belief, Rabbi Dr Zarum responds to challenging questions that confront Judaism today by bringing historical, scientific and philosophical research to bear on classical Jewish sources – with surprising and stimulating results.
“I am thrilled Questioning Belief has been recognised by the Sacks Prize judges. It is an honour to be in the company of Daniel and Alon, my fellow recipients, and I cannot wait for people to engage with the ideas in my book.” Rabbi Dr Zarum said.
You can hear Rabbi Dr Zarum in conversation with Dr Shira Weiss from YU in a specially recorded episode of the Rabbi Sacks Book Prize Podcast available on Spotify and all the usual providers.
Dr Daniel Gordis, a passionate advocate for Israel, won the prize for his book Impossible Takes Longer, and Rabbi Dr Alan Goshen-Gottstein, a leading interfaith activist was a co-finalist with Rabbi Dr Zarum for his book Covenant and World Religions.
Joanne Greenaway, LSJS CEO, said: “We are so proud that Rabbi Dr Zarum’s book has been awarded this well-deserved honour and are excited to launch Questioning Belief with a series of events early next year.”
Questioning Belief will be available early 2024 but to pre-order your copy and receive a 10% discount visit www.korenpub.com.
Rabbi Dr Raphael Zarum will be officially launching his book with events at Jewish Book Week and LSJS in March 2024.
