The London School of Jewish Studies has seen unprecedented demand for tickets in the run-up to their commemorative event in memory of Maureen Kendler, a much-missed educator and broadcaster who passed away after a short illness a year ago.
The event, “Teacher, mentor, colleague, friend: community event in memory of Maureen Kendler”, will take place on Sunday 10th February from 1:30 PM to 6:10 PM. The event has been specially timed to allow those living outside London to consider travelling in for the afternoon. It features keynote lectures by award-winning author and internationally acclaimed educator Judy Klitsner, and LSJS Scholar-in-Residence Gila Fine, who is editor-in-chief of Maggid books in Jerusalem. Fine, who also teaches Talmudic narrative at the Pardes Institute of Jewish Studies, has been described by Haaretz as “a young woman who is on her way to becoming one of the more outstanding Jewish thinkers of the next generation.”
As well as the two keynote lectures, the event offers an array of short sessions exploring a range of topics, from biblical texts (including Genesis, Job and Jonah) to “Visual story-telling in the Haggadah”. The event will conclude with a panel of Jewish educators, together with interfaith activist Julie Siddiqi, reminiscing on “Maureen’s wit and wisdom.”
