This four-year, part-time, competitively priced degree course in Jewish Education can be combined with a paid or volunteer position in a school and/or other job. You may be able to apply prior credit, learning (including Jewish learning), or relevant teaching experience and complete the BA more quickly.

What will you learn?

The course is structured part-time over 4 years. Students who register to study on campus will attend weekly lectures. Students who register for distance learning will primarily study in their own time, using the carefully curated resources provided on our virtual learning environment (www.moodle.lsjs.ac.uk) and will also participate in several live webinars for each module.

Each year you will undertake a variety of taught modules. In the 4th year you will also undertake an individual research project.

You will need to successfully complete a total of 360 credits to graduate with the BA (Hons.) Jewish Education. Further details of the programme structure are available in the Programme Handbook.

We aim to support applicants with different qualifications than those listed below who are nevertheless strong candidates for our degree course. We are looking for candidates who possess a mix of qualifications, school experience, subject knowledge or exam grades that will support success in the degree programme.

Applicants who attended secondary school outside the UK should contact the Programme Leader for an informal discussion regarding their academic background.

We accept the following qualifications:

  • Three GCE A levels or equivalent, at Grade C or above (96 UCAS points plus or equivalent). These should be made up from level 3 qualifications rather than non-academic qualifications or General Studies
  • The International Baccalaureate Diploma
  • The European Baccalaureate
  • SQA Highers and Advanced Highers
  • BTEC qualifications or Higher National Qualifications achieved with merit and distinctions
  • An access to Higher Education Qualification

We try to be flexible. If a candidate does not fit the criteria above, please contact us. We may be able to accept a candidate based on experience or other expertise.

If English is not the candidate’s first language, the equivilent of IELTS at level 6 is required.

Admission on the BA (Hons) Jewish Education is subject to interview.

 

The annual BA tuition fees for all new students registering for the academic year 2026 - 2027 will be £4760.

You will pay the annual tuition fees for 4 years. Your tuition fees may increase on an annual basis. When you receive your acceptance letter, you will be asked for a £200 non-refundable deposit to secure your place. The deposit will be deducted from your tuition fees in your final term of study. Please note that all bank charges associated with paying your fees will be your responsibility.

LSJS does not charge any additional fees. However, you will need to allow for a small cost of books and other learning materials, and ensure that you have access to reliable internet access.. You will be expected to buy occasional core texts for some modules. You may also need to pay a subscription for membership of online databases.  You should allow up to £200 per year for database subscriptions, books, downloaded papers and other learning materials.

If you are unable to access the LSJS library on a regular basis, you may wish to take out membership of an academic library closer to your home, which may have a separate cost. However, many resources are available online, and we expect that students who do not have access to a local academic library will nevertheless be able to complete all of the requirements of the course.

After completing the BA, you will be highly qualified to pursue a career in teaching, community leadership or a related field. Many other graduate career pathways will also be open to you. For example, in the UK, further qualifications in law or accountancy, or a graduate training programme in a range of employment sectors, from management consultancy to social work.

Your degree will open up many doors and will enable you to develop skills which are relevant to a wide variety of careers and transferable to many types of professions. These skills include:

  • Familiarity with and application of information technology

Teacher Training

Recent graduates of the BA (Hons) Jewish Education have been accepted onto initial teacher training programmes, with the intention of gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and progressing to a career as a Jewish Studies teacher, teacher of general subjects or other roles in education and Jewish Studies. As the principal provider of Initial Teacher Training to the Jewish community, LSJS will be able to help  and advise on your next steps towards qualification.
