Explore the ancient voices and sources that still today inform the way that Jews live their lives – see how they offer intriguing insights into the destiny and role of the Jewish people and Israel.
There are three elements to Different Voices: Prophets, Parasha & Psalms that are taught in consecutive hourly sessions:
· Nevi’im – the supporting cast (10:00am) with Sandy Littman. As well as the central prophetic characters, the books of Nevi’im are full of intriguing supporting personalities. This course will investigate some of the most striking examples of how villains and heroes, kings and commoners, enliven these episodes.
· New insights on the weekly Parasha (11:00am) with Jo Bruce, Amanda Bradley, Debbie Meyer, Karine Morris and Lindsay Simmonds. Our sages taught that the Torah has seventy faces. This engaging shiur gives you the opportunity to experience a range of approaches and diverse ways of understanding the Parasha.
· Uncovering the sweet Psalms of Israel (12:00pm) with Roisy Neves. This element offers an in-depth chronological study of the book of Tehillim with special help from Rabbi Shimshon Raphael Hirsch and other classical commentators.
Classes are taught by graduates of the Susi Bradfield Women Educators’ Fellowships in a lively, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
