As the central text of traditional Judaism, the Talmud is a record of over five hundred years of rabbinic discussions about Jewish law, lore, ethics, customs and history. Its intricate logic, conceptual complexity, sophisticated style, and terse language of Hebrew and Aramaic have made it a closed book to many Jews. This course makes the Talmud accessible and opens it to all.
The methodological approach of our experienced teachers will enable you to gain invaluable insights into the mindset of the Talmudic Sages. You will study the text in the original and in translation and look in-depth at many of the compelling traditional commentaries.
· Examine key discussions in the tractates of Brachot and Ta’anit
· Explore how these discussions impact on Judaism as it is lived today
· Experience the beauty and complexity of the Talmud as you study

“The Talmud has not yet been completed. Every day, every hour, scholars fi nd new subjects of study and new points of view. Not every student is capable of constructing their own systems, but the individual, from their own peculiar and personal point of view, is still capable of seeing some detail, however small, in a new light .” Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz,The Essential Talmud
