Customising Customs…

Who decides which practices are granted the status of minhag (Jewish customs)? In this course we will look at some of the stranger and well-known minhagim which have surprising histories. You will also learn some of the practices that never made it to minhag status at all and which communities were most prolific in generating minhagim. We will also explore how important minhagim were in perpetuating the most bitter schisms in Jewish history.
