Rabbi Dr Harvey Belovski

Research and Teaching Fellow

Rabbi Belovski read mathematics at University College, Oxford and subsequently studied in Gateshead.

He studied first at the Gateshead Yeshivah, where he gained Semichah, and then at the Beis HaTalmud Kollel. He later completed a PhD at the University of London, where he researched Chassidic hermeneutics in the philosophy department at Birkbeck.

In addition to his rabbinical duties at GGS, Rabbi Belovski is a research and teaching fellow at LSJS, the rabbinic mentor for University Jewish Chaplaincy, the principle and a founding governor of Rimon Jewish Primary School, the rabbi of Kisharon, the rabbi of PaL and lecturers regularly at the JLE and elsewhere. A member of the RCUS committee, he is the author of three books and has written numerous articles for the Jewish Chronicle, Cross-Currents and other publications. His special interests include midrash, contemporary halachah, pre-marriage counselling, 19th-century European Jewish thought, innovative educational programming and developing independent-minded students.

Rabbi Belovski is married to Vicki, whom he met at Oxford, where she read politics and philosophy. Vicki is a freelance journalist and author and the community news editor of HaModia UK. The Belovskis have seven children.
